The 8 April 2023 marks the 50th anniversary since the death of Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. Madrid is set to host many of the activities featured in a programme put together by the French and Spanish governments to honour the occasion.

Showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Spanish royal family, this museum which stands between the Royal Palace and La Almudena Cathedral is set to open in summer.

Madrid City Council’s cultural programme for 2023 includes the inauguration of new cultural venues and the return of the Festival of Light.

The world’s best football club will be unveiling its newly renovated stadium.

The first Madrid edition of the legendary festival has announced some impressive names as their headliners: Rosalía, Calvin Harris, Depeche Mode, Kendrick Lamar, Blur... Free shuttle to/from the Cívitas Metropolitano Stadium!

A significant facelift will turn Madrid’s most emblematic square into a more harmonious and welcoming plaza that is pedestrian-only.

The International Contemporary Art Fair marks its 42nd anniversary, bringing together the latest proposals from the international contemporary art market (IFEMA MADRID - Halls 7 and 9. 22-26 February).

Première in the Madrid theatre of this cult opera produced by the Australian, Barrie Kosky (Teatro Real. 13, 15, 17, 19, 27, 29 and 30 March).

The ballet company founded by the choreographer, George Balanchine, and Lincoln Kirstein performs three choreographies full of symbolism (Teatro Real. 23-26 March).

First international exhibition on the history of Formula 1 to experience the past, present and future of this sport (IFEMA MADRID. 24 Mar-16 Jul).

The expert comic opera director, Laurent Pelly, directs a version of the classic dramma buffo in Two Acts by Gioachino Rossini (Teatro Real. 31 May-12 Jun).

The International Festival of Photography and Visual Arts is holding a new edition with a programme that addresses current social issues (Various locations. Jun-Aug 2023).

The city is hosting the most important event of the Olympic cycle for the Paris Games in 2024 (2-4 June 2023).

The 16 best female junior national sides will fight to obtain the world title (WiZink Center. 15-23 July).

Madrid plays host to one of the most popular and long-established golf competitions in Europe (Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. October 2023).

Don’t miss the most important equestrian event that seeks to bring the general public closer to the world of horses (IFEMA MADRID - Pavilions 12 and 14. November 2023 -to be confirmed-).

Madrid will once again ring out the old and ring in the new with Spain's largest athletics event: a 10K fun run and a 10K professional race (31 December).

The historic theatre is reopening its doors inside the Umusic Hotel Teatro Albéniz, a complex comprising a five-star hotel and auditorium.

The 5-star hotel located a stone’s throw from Puerta del Sol will boast a restaurant helmed by the Sandoval brothers.

The luxury hotel group Evok is opening its first place in Madrid. Designed by Philippe Starck.


The successful Broadway musical based on the Disney animated film is coming to Spain in a production by Stage Entertainment (Teatro Coliseum. Premiere: 24 March 2023).
