This will be the first time that an official National Football League (NFL) regular season game will be played in Spain, in which Real Madrid will collaborate as it will be played at the iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium that has recently been refurbished.
In this way, the NFL continues to expand beyond the US borders, having played five matches outside North America in the 2023 season (three in London and two in Frankfurt).
The Miami Dolphins will play as the designated team in the historic first-ever regular season game in Spain, as part of the International Games 2025. The Miami Dolphins are a professional American football team based in the metropolitan area of Miami (Florida). They compete in the National Football League (NFL) and play their matches at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. The team is currently being led by the quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, under the orders of coach Mike McDaniel.
In this match, they will play against the Washington Commanders , finalists of last season’s NFC Conference, which has been selected from candidates like Cincinnati Bengals or Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Commanders, which finished the 2024 season with a 12-5 record and a place in the NFC Championship, have become one of the most popular teams in the NFL thanks to the leadership of the Head Coach, Dan Quinn, and the General Manager, Adam Peters. The ranks of this team include great players of the likes of the quarterback, Jayden Daniels, named the NFL Honors - AP Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2024 for accumulating more than 5,000 yards of total offence.
