In April, the streets of Madrid will host the Madrid Popular Marathon (known by the runners as Mapoma), one of the most important sporting events of the many that take place across Spain.
The race, classified as Gold Label by the International Athletics Federation, which is the highest level of excellence, is on a par with such well-known races as New York, London or Berlin. The event, classified as a Silver Road Race by the International Athletics Federation, is to form part of the Rock ‘n' Roll Marathon Series, the biggest running circuit in the world. There will be live music performances on over 20 stages, a finish line festival, a parallel 10 km race and a half-marathon, turning Madrid into a sporting celebration.
The route, which eases the final stage, allows you to enjoy one of the most attractive routes on the international circuit, as it sets off from the Cibeles Fountain and continues along the Paseo de la Castellana, passing the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, the Puerta del Sol, the Royal Palace, the Casa de Campo, Madrid Río Park, finishing in the historic El Retiro Park. The warmth of the enthusiastic, sport-loving Madrid crowd is the icing on the race's cake.
