The Russell Maliphant Dance Company will premiere in Spain a modern dance show inspired by the works of the painter, Jackson Pollock, on 9, 10 and 11 January in the Sala Roja Concha Velasco at the Teatros del Canal.
Light, shadows and bodies intertwine to build a visually exuberant journey, in which the energy of Pollock’s brush strokes is echoed in the physicality of the dancers. The result is an immersive experience in which the audience is invited to perceive movement as a kind of living painting, capable of generating layers, rhythm and vibration.
Founded in 1996, the RMDC has served as a platform for Maliphant to develop his own and joint language alongside artists from different disciplines. Its prestige is based on a career for which it has won two Olivier Awards, three South Bank Show Awards and four Critics’ Circle Awards for best modern choreography, as well as many other national and international awards.
With this production, Maliphant reaffirms his commitment to dance, going beyond the purely physical and opening the door to an encounter between the arts. This show connects Pollock's creative drive with the theatrical power of contemporary dance, yet again confirming the company's place as an international reference.
