This 35,200m2 modern complex is dedicated entirely to the performing arts. The building, which has all of the latest technological advances and is a recipient of the National Architecture Award, was designed by architect Juan Navarro Baldeweg and inaugurated in 2009 in the Chamberí neighbourhood.
This venue boasts four fully equipped halls: the Red Hall, with seating capacity of 843; the Green Hall, an adaptable multi-purpose hall that allows for different layouts, with a maximum capacity of 778 seats; the Black Hall, a small format space with seating capacity of 180; the Glass Hall, with glass walls to one side of the Green Hall. It has been designed as a space for musical dissemination and small format shows in an intimate format with the music and genres of the performing arts, a playful and passionate component, open to improvisation, with the appearance of a musical club, cabaret or variety hall.
It’s also home to the Centro Coreográfico Canal (CCC), which has nine dance studios that companies can temporarily use for rehearsals. The complex also has a café with outdoor seating, in addition to dressing rooms, offices and lobby areas.
The theatres´ programming is committed to technical and artistic excellence, and boasts a great variety of styles and content, ranging from classical and modern pieces to concerts, dance, flamenco, zarzuela, opera, circus and cabaret.
Teatros del Canal also hosts annual festivals organised by the Regional government of Madrid, such as the Autumn to Spring Festival, Madrid en Danza, Teatralia International Performing Arts Festival, Suma Flamenca and Sacred Art Festival.
