The Sala Roja Concha Velasco at the Teatros del Canal will host the world première of the latest production by the Spanish Ballet of the Community of Madrid from 9 December to 3 January 2027. This production uses classical mythology as its starting point to create a show in which Spanish dance enters into dialogue with ancestral symbolism, flamenco and contemporary stage creation.
Artistically directed by Mónica Fernández and choreographed by Miguel Ángel Corbacho, the production is inspired by the legend of the Goddess Cybele and the young Attis to develop a story marked by love, devotion and transformation. Cybele takes centre stage as the mother of the earth and a creative force, making her the axis of a universe in which memory, the body and nature intertwine.
Throughout the production, the narrative moves to a territory in which the human and the sacred go hand in hand and emotions, such as passion, jealousy, devotion or redemption are expressed through movement. It is therefore a metaphorical journey in which loss and desire are turned into a vital impulse, shaping an authentic stage ritual.
The choreographic language is based on Spanish dance roots but moves toward a modern aesthetic that extends its expressive possibilities. This approach is rounded off with a symphonic flamenco score that accompanies the action and turns the stage into a space for transition between tradition and innovation.
The Spanish Ballet of the Community of Madrid advocates the power of dance to revisit the great myths from a present-day sensitivity, offering spectators an experience that combines emotion, identity and memory.
