The Sala Juan de la Cruz at Teatro de La Abadía is hosting a world première on 21 October as part of the latest edition of the Suma Flamenca festival. The flamenco singer, El Pele, one of the leading flamenco figures presents Jondo, accompanied on stage by the guitarist, Niño Seve.
Manuel Moreno Maya, El Pele, comes from humble origins and learnt flamenco on the streets of Cordoba, gradually moving on to sing at flamenco houses. At the age of 15, he won his first award: Cayetana Muriel First Prize. During the 1980s, he partnered Vicente Amigo and even shared the stage with Camarón de la Isla. He has also worked closely with stars like Enrique Morente, Paco de Lucía or David Bowie, who took him on tour. In 2004, he was nominated for the Best Flamenco Music Album at the Latin Grammies for his album, Canto, recorded with Vicente Amigo.
Severiano Jiménez Flores is El Niño Seve, a guitarist from Cordoba who started playing at the age of 12, taught by his uncles, Manolo and Eduardo Flores. They later took him to the Chilean musician, Carlos Pacheco, who taught him harmony and composition. He has shared the line-up with artists like José Mercé, Aurora Vargas, José Domínguez Muñoz “El Cabrero”, Javier Latorre and Inmaculada Aguilar.
