Teatro de La Abadía is a theatre and training centre that hopes to make theatre influence social and cultural life. It has been designed with the intention of creating and exhibiting shows with artistic and human inclinations by organising workshops and meetings and is run by José Luis Gómez, who has configured the theatre staff following the tradition of European art theatres.
The theatre has been accommodated in the former church of the Sagrada Familia and also occupies the annexed auditorium, which have been renamed Juan de la Cruz Room and José Luis Alonso Room. The proximity between the stage and the audience in this peculiar venue, given its calculated dimensions, ensures both the actors and the crowd share the theatrical tension.
In addition, La Abadía also houses the Absidiolo, adjacent to the Juan de la Cruz hall, an exhibition space with different exhibitions throughout the season, many of them related to some of the plays on the bill, serving as a complement to the theatrical performance.
