As part of the 43rd Autumn Festival, the Greek choreographer, Christos Papadopoulos will première in the Community of Madrid a modern dance show on the euphoria of being alive on 21 and 22 November in the Concha Velasco Red Hall at the Teatros del Canal.
The piece arises from an intimate reflection compared to the present marked by corruption, war, the climate crisis and the rise of the far right. To counter this disenchantment, Papadopoulos looks back on his teens in Nemea, his home town, recalling the energy, trust and naivety of those years. This memory becomes the driving force of a production that compares the vitality of youth with the transformation imposed by the passage of time.
On stage, ten dancers portray youthful energy and courage in a choreography that is considered to be an act of resistance: the affirmation that hope can still be found in the connection between people and in common action.
Furthermore, the show comes at a key moment for Papadopoulos: a decade after his first creation, after directing Nekyia, his own interpretation of the Odyssey, and after winning the prestigious Rose International Dance Award, presented by Sadler's Wells in London.
Christos Papadopoulos is one of the leading choreographers and dances of the new Greek generation. He studied dance and choreography at SNDO (School for New Dance Development) in Amsterdam (Netherlands), acting at the National Theatre of Greece Drama School (GNT Drama School) and Political Sciences at Panteion University in Athens (Greece).
His most renowned productions include Elvedon, OPUS and Waterloo. He was also invited to form part of the teams that created the choreography for the opening ceremonies of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and the 2015 European Games in Baku (Azerbaijan).
