The flamenco and bolero singer, Mayte Martín, is participating in this year’s Suma Flamenca, in which she is giving a performance on 2 November at Teatros del Canal (Sala Roja Concha Velasco). In this recital, she will present her new project In illo tempore.
Mayte Martín was born an artist. Since her debut in 1994 with Muy Frágil, the singer from Barcelona has become an important figure in flamenco and was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts 2021.
In 1996, just two years after appearing on stage, Martín won the City of Barcelona Prize, awarded by the City Council. In the same year, she released her second album, Free Boleros, along with the pianist and jazz composer, Tete Montoliu.
For the creation of the project released in 2008, De Fuego y Agua, she once more worked with other artists, namely the French artists, Katia and Marielle Labèque, a prestigious contemporary piano duo. The album was made up of popular Spanish songs compiled by Federico García Lorca, as well as songs by the likes of Paco de Lucía or Manuel de Falla. In 2018, Mayte Martín was back and presented Tempo Rubato, a compilation of her own songs with arrangements by the maestro, Joan Albert Amargos. In 2020, she premièred her flamenco show, Déjà vu, with the special collaboration of the dancer, Patricia Guerrero.
