The FILMADRID International Film Festival is back with another edition from 5 to 14 June 2026 with a full programme that will be screened at different venues around the city, such as La Casa Encendida, Cine Doré at the Filmoteca Española and Cineteca Madrid, among others.
The FILMADRID festival, which is held annually, brings films to Madrid that cover all kinds of formats, genres and running times, which is pioneering in Spanish festivals, yet they share a common factor: they are all signature films that have enjoyed widespread success at international festivals around the world due to their high quality.
FILMADRID has established itself as a leading festival in the city, seeking to change the paradigm of today’s signature film festivals by promoting international films that are currently unknown in Spain.
The festival has competitive sections for which different juries of international film celebrities have been established to choose the winners. In this edition, the competitive sections are: ´Official Section´, featuring international premières and the second edition of the SMART7 competition, featuring European premières.
The SMART7 Competition is returning to FILMADRID for yet another year with a new selection of titles. Created to support filmmakers at the start of their careers, this programme features films that experiment both thematically and formally. Yet again, this year’s programme brings together seven films by emerging filmmakers. FILMADRID has chosen As liñas descontinuas (The Dashed Lines), the first feature film by the director from Galicia, Anxos Fazáns, which follows the unexpected encounter between Bea, a 50-year-old woman in the midst of a divorce, and Denís, a 28-year-old trans man navigating an unstable period.
