With José Luis Sixto as stage director, and the pianist César Belda as musical director, the theatrical adaptation of the prestigious French film Les Choristes is coming to Spain. You can see the play at Teatro La Latina, with performances from Wednesday to Sunday.
The story revolves around the character of Clement Mathieu, a teacher and failed musician who in 1949 accepts a job offer at Fond de l'Etang, a boarding school for troubled boys. At first, he finds it hard to manage his unruly class, but he gradually adapts to the school environment while trying to get the boys’ misbehaviour under control.
One night, after hearing them sing on their own before going to sleep, Clement sees the potential they have for music and thinks it might help him get a handle on them. So he decides to put together a choir and get the best out of each one.
The film enjoyed great success after its 2004 première, receiving two Oscar nominations for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Song, and winning the Cesar Awards for Best Music and Best Sound in 2005. The soundtrack became a huge hit all around the world and has become one of the most famous film scores of all time.
