This centenary theatre located in the heart of the La Latina neighbourhood, close to the Plaza Mayor, is one of the key stages in the history of comic and variety theatre in Madrid.
In the 15th century, the space it occupies used to be the Hospital de la Concepción de Nuestra Señora, founded by Beatriz Galindo “La Latina” (Spanish writer and humorist, Latin and grammar teacher to Queen Isabel the Catholic and tutor to her children, from whom the popular Madrid neighbourhood took its name). Later, in 1919, the building housed a cinema and was later turned into a theatre.
In 1962, the “Los verdaderos cómicos de Madrid” company, made up of the two great Spanish comedians, Juanito Navarro and Lina Morgan, ran the theatre and in 1983, the popular actress and her brother became the owners of the establishment, turning it into the reference stage for variety theatre in Madrid.
In 2008, the space was rented by the Pentación Espectáculos Group, which bought it in 2010.
The theatre hall has an Italian layout and capacity for 900 spectators.
