The Canal Foundation began its activities in 2001. Its mission is to raise awareness in society for the defence of the environment and water, through the organisation and sponsorship of artistic, cultural, historic, scientific and applied research activities.
The Foundation has two exhibition spaces: one in Calle Mateo Inurria, and Sala Castellana 214. Through these spaces, the Foundation runs general interest activities, such as exhibitions, conferences, concerts, and discussion forums, in all fields of thought, culture, art, history, and the natural and social sciences.
The space in Calle Mateo Inurria is spread over 442 m2 divided into three areas: an exhibition hall, an auditorium and a vaulted gallery. It puts on three free exhibitions every year, dedicated to the great masters of modern and contemporary art in disciplines such as sculpture, painting, drawing and photography.
