The flamenco dancer and choreographer, Manuel Liñán will première a flamenco dance show in the Community of Madrid from 21 to 24 October at the Sala Roja Concha Velasco at the Teatros del Canal which provides a theatre review of the creative universe of Federico García Lorca.
Far from being a conventional biography, the production turns Lorca’s imagery into theatrical material. Symbols, emotions and landscapes that run through the writer’s work take shape through a staging that seeks to revive the essence of his legacy and showcase the relevance of a voice that continues to speak to contemporary audiences.
Repressed desires, impossible love, folklore and popular culture form the backbone of this sensory journey through the poet’s inner world. The choreography presents a constant metamorphosis that evokes, reconstructs and strips down the figure of Lorca to reveal his most intimate dimension, where words give way to emotion.
Furthermore, Manuel Liñán is accompanied by an extensive cast of flamenco dancers and musicians, such as the special guest appearance by Curro Albaicín and Falete, or the participation of Raquel “La Repompa” Heredia and José Maldonado. The original music is by José Fermín, with the collaboration of Antonio Campos in the composition of the dance duo.
Manuel Liñán is one of the leading flamenco dancers and choreographers on the modern flamenco scene. Having studied in his home town from a very young age, he has developed a career marked by the renewal of the flamenco language, combining respect for tradition with an innovative and deeply personal artistic vision.
He began his career as a creator with his own shows, obtaining extensive national and international recognition. His most important productions include Viva!, Baile de Autor, Reversible or Sinergia. Winner of the 2017 National Dance Prize in the Performance category, he has received a great deal of recognition for his ability to extend the boundaries of flamenco through stage productions of great aesthetic and expressive power.
