The choreographer, Sharon Fridman will present a single performance of a contemporary dance show on 1 November in the Sala Verde at Teatros del Canal, in which he explores functional diversity and the possibilities of movement through difference. The production includes smoke effects.
The piece turns the stage into a meeting place where bodies enter into dialogue based on their unique qualities, advocating inequality as a space for freedom, creation and transformation. Fridman puts limitations at the centre of the stage narrative. The show explores how one body develops its own grammar of movement and how another attempts to approach that language, extend and share it. This process of mutual discovery requires absolute dedication, as only through listening and paying attention is it possible to build a relationship that enables us to coexist with difference without erasing it.
The production proposes a choreographic landscape in which diversity becomes a creative force. The performers explore new forms of physical communication, blurring the boundaries between those who adapt and those who are adapted, to reveal that true connection arises by recognising the other’s uniqueness.
Born in Hadera (Israel) in 1980, Sharon Fridman is a dancer and choreographer resident in Spain and one of the leading figures in European contemporary dance. Having trained and started his career in Israel, he founded the Sharon Fridman Company in 2006 in Madrid, through which he has developed his own choreographic language based on physical connection, improvisation and the exploration of shared movement.
His creations delve into themes like cooperation, fragility, identity and human relationships. Throughout his career, he has won many awards, including the Burgos-New York Choreography Competition, the Alicia Alonso Ibero-American Choreography Prize, the Madrid Choreography Competition, the Huesca International Theatre and Dance Festival, the Tanzplatform in Bern or the 2015 Max Award, among others.
