As part of the Canal Baila concert series, the Anna Borràs Company will première a show that combines modern dance, music, projections, lights and sensory elements to artistically recreate the northern lights on 16 and 17 October in the Sala Negra (Black Hall) at the Teatros del Canal. The performance uses strobe lights, smoke and loud sounds.
Rather than a conventional show, it unfolds like a living art installation. Spectators are not confined to their seats, as they are invited to walk around, move or even lie down to immerse themselves in the recreation of the phenomenon. The idea is for each spectator to be an active part of the journey, exploring temperatures, colours, sounds, silences and even aromas that evoke the immensity of the Arctic Circle.
The set design and mapping turn the venue into a moving canvas, in which images and lights merge with the choreography and music. Furthermore, the music is influenced by yoik music, typical of the Sami tradition, along with traditional Korean music and the inspiration taken directly by the artist from her own memories and experiences under the Arctic sky. This fusion of performing and sensory arts seeks not only to reproduce a natural phenomenon, but also to convey the calm, beauty and mystery that emanate from it.
Born in Reus (Barcelona), Anna Borràs is a dancer and choreographer who studied contemporary dance at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona. She has worked with renowned choreographers and national and international ensembles, such as Akram Khan, Jasmin Vardimon or the Retina Dance Company. She has won awards in competitions, such as first prize at the 2nd Contemporary Woman Competition in Almeria and first prize in contemporary dance at the Premi Beca Roseta Mauri. She was also a finalist in the 10th Burgos-New York Dance Competition. She now directs the Anna Borràs Company, with which she has developed her own productions, worked with artists from around the world and provided workshops and choreographies for young companies.
There will be a meeting the public session after the performance on 16 October.
