From 17 November to 1 March 2026, Hall 33 at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum is hosting an exhibition devoted to the technical study of the painting by Edgar Degas, At the Milliner’s (1882), which was carried out thanks to the patronage of the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation.
The aim of this project, which has been underway for just over a year, is to gain an overall understanding of the pastel technique used by Edgar Degas and to delve into his painting through infrared reflectography, X-radiography, macro photography and laboratory analysis. These technological advances have enabled the materials used to be identified and their state of conservation to be assessed.
This exhibition shares the results of this research with the public in order to enrich their understanding of this artist’s complex way of working.
