Yamato - The Wings of the Phoenix

From the heart of Japan and with the ancestral strength of the taiko, Yamato has conquered stages worldwide with its vibrant energy and rhythmic precision. This impressive percussion group, made up of 40 talented artists, has taken the magic of the drums to more than 54 countries, moving the audience with every blow that sounds like a universal beat. This show can be seen from 16 to 27 June at the Teatro Gran Vía with performances from Tuesday to Sunday.

Yamato, the drummers of Japan is a Japanese percussion company founded in 1993 in the Nara Prefacture by Masa Ogawa. Their mission is to spread the happiness and energy of the taiko, the traditional Japanese drum, through amazing shows that combine strength, discipline and a deep spiritual feeling.

Taiko drums have a thousand-year-old tradition in Japan and are used in rituals, festivals and in the old war.  Yamato takes them to another level, exploring all of their sound possibilities and combining percussion with dynamic choreographies and a great sense of humour. Their repertoire varies between explosive pieces and more introspective moment, achieving a balance between intensity and delicateness.

Their show is more than music: it is a sensory experience that unites the performers and spectators in an event full of emotion, where the sacred rhythm becomes a universal language of happiness, passion and life.
