The Opera Gallery Madrid will host an exhibition devoted to Pop Art from 5 March to 15 April, which brings together a careful selection of pieces of art and creations by some of the most internationally renowned representatives of this movement.
The exhibition features pieces of art by key figures from the United States, Europe and Spain, offering a dynamic panorama of Pop Art as a visual language and critical tool. Its title refers to Pim-Pam-Pop (1971) by Equipo Crónica, an essential piece from its Policía y Cultura series. In this iconic painting, police officers carry pictorial figures instead of weapons as they cross a field of flowers inspired by Warhol, set against an industrial background that evokes Fernand Léger and Roy Lichtenstein.
The exhibition presents leading international icons from pop art, including Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Takashi Murakami and Andy Warhol, alongside leading Spanish artists, such as Pedro Almodóvar, Eduardo Arroyo, Rafael Canogar, Equipo Crónica, Juan Genovés, Luis Gordillo, Cristóbal Hara, Isabel Oliver, Antonio Saura and Manolo Valdés. These artists enter into dialogue between global pop aesthetics and the specific cultural, political and social realities that shaped Spanish Pop Art.
