The Mayumaná dance and percussion group will be performing its latest show that takes the audience on a journey through the rhythms of life from 2 to 26 May, with performances from Wednesday to Sunday, at the Teatro EDP Gran Vía. It offers a combination of dance, lights, music and humour.
Impulse tells the story of the journey of life through the perspective of rhythm and movement, exploring the different states of life and the emotions within it. The heartbeat or pulse is the central theme, representing the rhythm of life itself.
The production is characterised for including an eclectic musical and rhythmic mix from all over the world, ranging from traditional African percussion to the most contemporary electronic beats. The Mayumaná performers use their bodies as instruments, creating hypnotic rhythms and movements that reflect the ups and downs of life’s journey.
Mayumaná is a musical group founded by Eylon Nuphar, Boaz Berman and Roy Oferen in 1997 in Tel-Aviv (Israel). Its name comes from the Hebrew word, Mayumanut, which means ability or skill. With more than 25 years experience, this company stands out for its vibrant choreographies, incorporating percussion through unusual objects, such as rubbish bins, boxes, cans and other recycled elements, as well as its dancing to the beat of the rhythms it composes.
Over the last quarter of a century, it has given more than 156,000 performances and has been seen by eight million spectators in more than 20 countries worldwide. Some of its most famous productions are Garage6 or Rumba and its popularity led it to feature in a Coca-Cola TV advert.
