The flamenco dancer, Eduardo Guerrero, will première a flamenco show in the Community of Madrid on 23, 24, and 25 January in the Sala Roja Concha Velasco at the Teatros del Canal, exploring the need to reconnect with the human side.
It is an allegory on regaining the capacity of amazement and how the connection between people has been lost in an era dominated by technology and overexposure. Inspired by María Zambrano’s train of thought and her defence of the interior and poetic reason, the piece poses sleep as a sacred and regenerative space in light of a world governed by algorithms and screens. From this abandonment, Guerrero builds a symbolic and dreamlike dramaturgy in which the body expresses what words are unable to say.
The production incorporates the image of the covered women of Vejer, women covered by a cloak that only reveals one eye, as an emblem of a protected interior: they do not hide to disappear, but to preserve what is vital. Between tradition and contemporaneity, the performance celebrates the transformative power of flamenco as a sensitive response to the challenges of our times.
Born in Cadiz in 1983, Eduardo Guerrero is a choreographer and dancer who started dancing at the age of six. He has worked with artists such as Antonio Canales, Manolo Marín, Mario Maya and Chiqui de Jerez and has participated as a solo dancer in competitions such as the Flamenco Fridays of Jerez, the Flamenco Thursdays of Cadiz and the Guggenheim Museum’s Stars Festival.
He is also the winner of numerous awards, such as the First Prize in the 2nd Choreography Competition of Professional Dance Conservatories of Andalusia, the Desplante Award from the Cante de las Minas de la Unión International Festival 2013, the 16th Audience Award of the Festival of Jerez in 2017 or the Lorca Award for Male Performer Flamenco Dance 2022.
