Madrid Between Books

From 29 May to 14 September, an exhibition is taking place in Room 1 of the Conde Duque Cultural Centre Exhibition Hall, commemorating the 150th anniversary of Madrid’s Public Historical Library, founded in 1876.

This exhibition, Madrid Between Books, showcases a range of bibliographic collections, documents and materials from Madrid’s Public Historical Library, alongside pieces from other cultural institutions in the city.

Organised by Madrid’s Public Historical Library in collaboration with the Exhibitions Division of the Department of Culture, Tourism and Sports, the exhibition highlights the richness, diversity and importance of the library's collections. Going beyond traditional commemorations, the exhibition explores the transformations that took place in Madrid during the nineteenth century, examining its urban, social and cultural dimensions. It also focuses on the figure of Ramón de Mesonero Romanos (1803-1882), the founder of the library and a key figure in the city's history.
