Teatro Real presents the second opera by Giuseppe Verdi this season on 29 June, 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 20 July. A show conducted by Nicola Luisotti and François López-Ferrer and produced by Francisco Negrín is based on the play by Antonio García Gutiérrez.
An opera in four acts tells the story of Count di Luna who has heard an unknown troubadour serenading Leonora. The jealous count is determined to capture and punish him, so he stands guard under her balcony.
To keep his troops awake, the captain, Ferrando, recounts the terrible story of a gypsy woman Azucena who was burned at the stake years ago for bewitching the count's infant brother. The Count is still looking for the woman and his brother everywhere.
