On 22 June, the Portuguese Fado singer-songwriter will be performing as part of the Universal Music Festival programme in the UMusic Hotel Teatro Albéniz.
Dulce Pontes is one of the biggest names in the Fado genre. Yet this Portuguese artist transcends the genre and cultivates her passion for various types of music thanks to the versatility of her voice and her emotional warmth.
She is considered one of the best singers on the Portuguese music scene. She has performed alongside artists such as Andrea Bocelli, José Carreras, and Giorgos Dalaras, and her song Canção do mar was the main theme on the soundtrack to the 1996 film Primal Fear, starring Richard Gere and Edward Norton.
She displayed talent at a young age and trained at the National Conservatory of Music in Lisbon. She represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1991, obtaining one of Portugal's highest ever scores in this contest. In 1993, her album Lágrimas cemented her reputation on the Fado music scene as an artist who could turn her hand to modern rhythms and instruments, seeking new expressive musical form whilst always respecting tradition.
After A Brisa do coracâo (1995), Caminhos (1996) and O Primeiro Canto (1999), in 2002 she recorded Best of, a collaboration with the great Ennio Morricone and Focus (2003). O Coracâo Tem Três Portas (2006), Momentos (2009) and PeregrinaÇâo (2017) represent the career of a versatile artist who has collaborated with international artists such as Cesaria Evora, Caetano Veloso, Marisa Monte, Estrella Morente, Carlos Núñez, Giorgos Dalaras, Stefanos Korkolis, Waldemar Bastos and Eleftheria Arvanitaki.
