Cíclicus - Vetus Venustas

The Ciclicus Company is giving two performances of a show that addresses the problematic retirement of circus performers on 18 and 19 April at the Teatro Circo Price.

Written by Joan Arque and directed by Leandro Mendoza, the show tells how three elderly artists have been relegated to a warehouse of useless props.  However, during this abandonment, they rebel against the position that society has now given them. There, they meet up with other young performers, revealing the generational contrasts and reflecting on the acceptance of changes in life, even in the artistic world.

The veteran performers are aged between 65 and 78 and come from the world of mime, theatre and sport.  They do not belong to traditional circus families and are considered to be pioneers of the New Circus Movement.  The initial features of old age in the contemporary circus are explored in depth, creating a bridge between the recent past and the near future that explores the social foundations of old age, professional retirement in the circus and theatre, and the legacy of our elders.
