The prestigious choreographer, Daniel Abreu, will première a modern dance show in the Community of Madrid, which delves into the process of the conquest and domination of villages, on 26, 27 and 28 February in the Sala Verde at Teatros del Canal.
Daniel Abreu will once more immerse himself in the territories of memory, identity and transformation through a poetic reflection on history and its cycles. He proposes a physical and emotional journey through the body that evokes both fragility and resistance. Movement becomes a metaphor of the historic processes of the villages that were conquered and the systems that were destroyed to give way to others.
The piece does not seek to reproduce facts nor take sides, but rather it aims to understand how history devours what went before it and how survival needs to move forward, even at the cost of loss. On stage, this tension is translated into dancers who face each other, adapt and reinvent themselves in a choreography that swings from ritual calm to restrained violence.
The author, true to his introspective and symbolic style, links his personal story with that of the land where he was born, acknowledging the heritage of a territory marked by conquests and new ways of life. Therefore, dance rises up as a language to consciously revisit the past.
Born in 1976 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Daniel Abreu is a choreographer specialised in classical ballet and contemporary dance. He began his training at the Dance Conservatory in Madrid and went on to further his experience and knowledge in other countries like France or Belgium. Throughout his career, he has worked for such important groups as the Nomadas Company, 10 & 10 Danza, the Spanish National Dance Company or the Teatre Tanca Zawirowania.
Abreu won the National Dance Prize 2014 in the Creation category, the Prize for Best Director at the Santander INDIFESTIVAL 2010 or the Jury Award for Best Choreography at the 18th Madrid Choreographic Competition in 2005. In 2018, his production La Desnudez jointly won the Max Award for Best Choreography, Best Dance Performance and Best Male Dancer, and in 2019, Abisal won the Replica Award for Best Dance Performance, Best Soundtrack and Best Costume Design went to Leo Martínez.
