From 16 October 2026 to 10 January 2027, the Juan March Foundation will be presenting an exhibition that provides a visual journey through Spanish art from 1960 to the present day.
This exhibition offers a broad panorama of Spanish artistic production over the past six decades, exploring how art has transitioned from modernity to contemporary practices. It brings together key works that depict break-ups, continuities and formal experimentations in paintings, sculptures, drawings, installations and audiovisual media.
The exhibition is not limited to a chronological analysis, but raises questions on the mere fact of displaying, the role of the museum and the aesthetic tensions that have made up art in Spain since the 1960s.
Through this lens, the exhibition invites visitors to observe how artists have addressed social, political and cultural changes and how they have built new aesthetics from specific contexts. It also reflects on the exhibition as a cultural event and its evolution over time. The Aesthetic Transition. Spain, 1960-2020 becomes an invitation to rethink our outlook on recent Spanish art and its relevance for the present.
