At Madrid Río Park, between the palatial Vargas Mansion and Huerta de la Partida Gardens, we'll find Puente del Rey Esplanade. Right next to one of the entrances to Casa de Campo Park, this open-air space hosts all kinds of performances, from music, dance, flamenco and zarzuela to musicals and much more.
The bridge here was built at the beginning of the 19th century and was designed by royal architect Isidro González Velázquez, a student of Juan de Villanueva. In its early days, the bridge could only be used by the king, who crossed it to access Casa de Campo Park from the Royal Palace. When the park was opened to the general public in 1931, the bridge was widened. Today, it serves as one of the main entrances to Madrid Río Park.
