The CaixaForum square, with its impressive architectonical design, boasts a pond and a green, fresh, extraordinary wall forming a vertical garden which takes up the entire wall of a side building.
Based on his own theory that “plants do not need soil; they just need water, minerals, light, and carbon dioxide,” Patrick Blanc built an impressive 78 -foot tall green wall with 250 different species of plants that survive without soil and which give the appearance of a living piece of art.
The garden is supported by five pipe structures that replace the earth and anchor the roots of plants to the interior. Watering falls from three levels of the wall, via perforated pipes. 50% of the water is recycled after the rest is absorbed by the flora and evaporated.
