The former brewery, “El Águila”, built between 1912 and 1914 according to plans designed by the architect, Eugenio Jiménez Corera, and later extended by Luis Sainz de los Terreros, today forms an architectural and cultural complex made up of the Joaquín Leguina Regional Library, the Regional Archive of the Community of Madrid and the Historical Archive of Protocols.
The proposed adaptation of the old brewery, located in the district of Arganzuela, was conducted by a team consisting of architects Emilio Tuñón and Luis M. Mansilla.
The complex was built in a Neo-Mudejar style, characterised by the brickwork and tile details that can still be seen on the building of today’s Legal Deposit. It is one of the best pieces of industrial architecture from the first quarter of the 20th century.
Having abandoned its industrial purpose in the 1980s, its classification as a Site of Cultural Interest protected some machinery and buildings that were about to disappear.
