Located in Lavapiés, this popular bar with a marked Galician style has been offering its clients generous portions prepared with the finest ingredients since the end of the 1970s, with its famous "zapatillas": Galician toasted bread with bacon and melted teat cheese as its speciality. In 2021, its former owners transferred the establishment to Rafael Riqueni, Alejandro Martínez and Ignacio Revuelta, who make sure that the spirit of this Madrid gastronomic institution lives on.
Melo’s menu includes creamy ham croquettes, small green peppers and tomato, tuna and egg pasties.
The establishment does not take reservations.
They have recently opened a second place at No 16 Calle Andrés Mellado (Moncloa/Argüelles), with a similar look and menu, except for three differences: the new Melos is more spacious and has seating, you can buy brand merchandise, and if any of the customers manage to eat their famous "zapatillas" sandwich in 20 minutes, they get a t-shirt and a souvenir photo.
