Conde Duque will host the Madrid première of the latest project by Chano Domínguez on 23 September. The pianist from Cadiz will accompany the screening of El Amor Brujo, the classic film directed by Francisco Rovira Beleta in 1967. After a career spanning more than 40 years, the musician takes on his first ever challenge of performing a musical narrative on the piano to accompany the images of a film.
The initiative came about as a result of a commission by the Filmoteca de Catalunya due to the digitalisation of the film nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1967. Featuring Antonio Gades and La Polaca, the film includes a soundtrack performed by the RTVE Orchestra, conducted by Ernesto Halffter with the participation of the guitarist, Narciso Yepes.
For this project, Chano Domínguez has created more than fifteen musical interludes that enter into dialogue with the different scenes and provide a new interpretation of the film. The compositions are inspired by the original score by Manuel de Falla, one of the pianist’s preferred composers, and the Cadiz of his childhood, where the film is set.
Born in Cadiz in 1960, Sebastián Domínguez Lozano, better known as Chano Domínguez, is a pianist and composer, who started out in music with the rock and jazz fusion group, Cai. After this adventure, he moved to the Hixcadix band, and later went solo to explore all branches of contemporary jazz.
He released his debut album Chano in 1992 and now boasts more than fifteen albums and dozens of collaborations with artists like Ana Belén, Paco de Lucía, Carmen París or La Barbería del Sur. In 2020, he received the National Prize for Contemporary Music, awarded by the Ministry of Culture.
