The Palace building in the Quinta de Los Molinos country park houses a cultural space dedicated to children, teenagers and families. This initiative puts on a programme of activities designed for audiences aged 0 to 16, aiming to nurture creativity from early childhood and to recognise play as a form of culture in its own right — one that embraces the ways of being, inventing and relating that are shared by both playful and creative processes.
The mansion has been owned by the Ayuntamiento de Madrid since 1982 and has never been used for any other event or activity. Now the city has decided to put it to great use as a space for the Madrid youth. The Quinta de Los Molinos Espacio Abierto has two functions: on the one hand it offers a permanent set of activities like workshops, shows and different events and on the other it is a space where the young people can enjoy themselves and meet other people.
In the central courtyard area, there is a restaurant and café La Quinta Cocina, run by the NGO CESAL as part of a programme supported by Madrid City Council. Each year, more than 150 young people receive training there in cooking and hospitality. The restaurant has been awarded the “Solete de barrio” distinction by the Repsol Guide.
Spaces:
- Play Area: This space brings people together and encourages spontaneous play through objects and experimental corners, running artistic activities every quarter.
- “Inventario”: Workspace-laboratory designed and equipped to create a calming environment to create, research or work in a group. It hosts workshops related to design, self-publishing and visual storytelling, and when there are no activities running, it provides an area for reading and quiet play.
- Space 0 – 5: Aimed at babies and children between the ages of 0 and 5, it is a nurturing environment that promotes play and free movement, allowing for calm exploration driven by curiosity and sensory play.
- Space+: Multipurpose room designed to accommodate specific proposals, such as group projects, team meetings, or small workshops and labs linked to mediation projects.
- Outdoor Spaces: The Quinta de los Molinos country park itself is an environment for play and exploration, hosting workshops, tours and celebrations that engage with the seasons and the local way of life.
- Auditorium: This space accommodates our performing arts and audiovisual programme for children, teenagers, families and schools, as well as other formats that encourage imagination and a sense of wonder.
