It is located in the most important art circuit in the city, next to the streets with the main art galleries and close to the National Library, the Palacio de Congresos or the Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofía Museums. Its program of events includes theater, dance, music, children's shows and exhibitions, as well as talks, conferences and other activities.
The cultural centre has several rooms: Sala Guirau, Sala Jardiel Poncela, an exhibition room, a multi-purpose room, and Sala María Dolores Pradera.
With a total capacity of 682 people, the Sala Guirau is the auditorium reserved for big plays, dance and music series and children’s productions.
Sala Jardiel Poncela is a smaller venue with room for all the performing arts: music, dance and theatre for adults and young children as well as conferences, debates, conferences and workshops.
The Exhibition Hall, on Floor -1, extends over one thousand square metres, offering temporary exhibitions of great interest to the general public. Photos, sculptures, paintings, audiovisuals, etc. are some of the items that have formed part of the exhibitions on display since it opened.
The Multi-Purpose Hall, with capacity for up to 48 people, is a place to hold workshops, meetings, conferences and diverse training activities.
The Sala María Dolores Pradera room, known colloquially until now as “The Mushroom”, is now named after the artist. This space can be used to stage presentations, productions and other events. María Dolores Pradera is also part of the story of the Fernán Gómez centre, having performed on stage in the Sala Guirau on several occasions.
The entrance and rest rooms to the performance halls are regularly used for performances, acoustic concerts, dramatised readings and press conferences. These areas are: María Dolores Pradera Hall (formerly known as the Mushroom Lobby), Lobby of the Guirau Hall and Jardiel Poncela Hall and Exhibition Lobby of the entrance via the restaurant.
