CÚBIT. Science + Art

The Condeduque Contemporary Culture Centre will host from 23 to 30 May the first edition of CÚBIT. Science + Art, a festival that reflects on the role of artificial intelligence in culture. Artists, scientists, thinkers and creators will come together to question the promises and dangers, seductions and resistance that AI awakens in the field of art and culture.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is not only present in laboratories and on screens. It has colonised our imagination, creative practices and ways of thinking about and experiencing the world. This festival emerges as a space for critical and poetic exploration of this new territory.

Over nine days, Conde Duque will become an interdisciplinary experimentation laboratory. From the robotic dance of Famulus 4.0 to the computational puppet theatre of The Big Bang, to Carla Nyman and Lluna Issá Casterà’s theatre or the piece by Amir Yatziv, as well as AI writing workshops, the CÚBIT festival presents a map of the potential relationships between human creativity and the algorithms that amplify, challenge or transform it.

CÚBIT proposes an open dialogue through talks, screenings, performances, workshops and conversations that invite joint reflection on what it means to create in the AI era. If art has always been a way of asking ourselves what makes us human, that question now takes on renewed urgency.

Jorge Volpi, artistic director of the Condeduque Contemporary, Culture Centre states that “this festival does not offer reassuring certainties, but rather a space to jointly think about how artificial intelligence is transforming our relationship with art, literature and creativity”. Volpi also adds that CÚBIT is “an essential gathering for creators, readers, artists and citizens who do not want to limit themselves to merely consuming the future but would rather participate actively in its construction”.
