Jordi Purtí, former member of Joglars, will direct a show that reinvents classical opera with humour and creativity using only human voices and imagination in conjunction with David Costa on the musical side This performance will be premièred in the Community of Madrid on 22 and 23 October in the Red Hall at the Teatros del Canal.
This production combines the magic of opera with comedy, inventiveness and visual power. A grand piano comes to life on a cold, dark stage to perform a unique concert featuring characters played by theatre workers who emerge from the instrument.
The surprising thing is that the music is made by the cappella voices of stagehands, tailors, lighting technicians and other members of the technical team, who perform some of the most iconic scenes from opera with great wit and humour.
Throughout the performance, there are sketches that reinterpret famous arias, overtures and choruses by composers like Verdi, Rossini, Bellini, Mozart, Bizet, Wagner, Saint-Saëns and Offenbach. Memorable moments include an impossible toast from La Traviata, one stage from the Tour de France to the rhythm of The Barber of Seville or a love story set in a train station with the chorus of slaves from Nabucco. This production offers an experience that brings classical opera to all audiences through wit and high-quality vocals.
