The flamenco dancer, Sara Jiménez will be performing a flamenco show that reflects on love and death as part of the cycle of life on 7 and 8 November at the Centro Danza Matadero - CDM.
Accompanied by the voices of Teresa Hernández, Miguel Marín `Árbol´ and Mari Carmen Pérez ´Niña de Espejo´, Jiménez constructs a symbolic story in which a hunter becomes his own prey upon shooting a bird. Based on this mythological image, the piece examines love, death and regeneration as vital forces in an intimate universe in which tragedy and celebration come together.
The performance, which combines flamenco, dance and contemporary music, also invites the audience to reflect in-depth on the limits of flamenco: its roots, its fissures and its possibilities. Through the body and movement, Jiménez questions flamenco’s place at the crossroads of the traditional, the experimental and identity.
Born in Granada in 1989, Sara Jiménez is a flamenco dancer and choreographer who graduated from the Reina Sofía Professional Dance Conservatory and furthered her studies at the Andalusian Dance Centre under Blanca Li. From an early age, she stood out as a performer, working with companies such as Estévez & Paños and participating in international tours with shows directed by Carlos Saura. She has also worked with leading figures from flamenco and contemporary dance, such as Eduardo Guerrero, Daniel Doña or Wang Ramírez.
In 2022, she founded her own company, with which she has created shows like Adioses, Musa Mía and Ave de Plata, whereby the latter has been acclaimed by critics and has been nominated for several Max Awards. Her work is characterised by a personal outlook that combines flamenco tradition with contemporary stage languages, exploring the body as a tool for poetic expression, identity and memory. Sara Jiménez has also been awarded the Best Andalusian Dance Performer by the PAD Association.
