The flamenco dancer, Rocío Molina will be premièring a flamenco show at Centro Danza Matadero - CDM from 15 to 23 November, Wednesdays to Sundays, that explores the ritual that precedes the artistic act and the driving force that precedes creation.
For this production, the dancer from Andalusia has joined forces with playwright, Pablo Messiez, musician Niño de Elche and Cabosanroque to delve into the moment before the action: that instant when the body starts to activate itself and everything is about to happen.
With a group of flamenco singers and a staging that combines intimacy with performance, Molina turns the warm-up process into a metaphor of desire, life and resistance. This show revolves around the creative force, where every beginning already has an ending, but whatever happens, the party never stops.
Born in Malaga in 1984, Rocío Molina is considered to be one of Spain’s best flamenco dancers. She started learning to dance flamenco at the age of three and by the time she was 21, she presented her first production, Between Walls. Other shows include Turquoise as a Lemon, Almario or When Stones Fly.
Her awards include the Outstanding Dancer Award at the 11th Spanish Dance and Flamenco Choreography Competition, the Flamenco Critics Award for Best Emerging Dancer 2006, the National Dance Prize 2010 awarded by the Ministry of Culture in the performance category and the Max Awards 2017 for the Best Dance Performer and Best Choreography for Fallen from Heaven.
