Various venues around Madrid will host a programme made up of several musical shows with a Christmas theme from 18 to 30 December, bringing together the best of flamenco, soul, gospel, jazz and other genres, performed by a selection of leading national and international artists.
This year, the programme will be coming to the Sabatini Gardens for the first time ever and it will be back at the balconies of the Teatro Español. Other venues, such as the Plaza de los Carros and the Balcony of the Casa de la Villa will be repeated.
The Balcony of the Teatro Español will host the first concerts in the series, featuring the All4Gospel Choir, one of the best ensembles to experience this music, which will be performing a show that combines pop classics and Christmas carols with gospel arrangements. The singer, composer and set designer, Blanca Paloma, a committed artist who has created her own universe based on the fusion of tradition and the avant-garde, will also be featured.
She will invite us to discover the songs from her first album, along with interpretations of Falla, Lorca, and Sor Juana Inés, and a Christmas carol she learned from her grandmother, Carmen.
The Sabatini Gardens will boast an extensive concert programme, featuring Club del Río, one of Madrid's most charismatic bands, inspired by Latin American songs and Anglo-Saxon folk music, creators of intimate and profound atmospheres, masters of harmonies and silences, with extensive stage experience.
This venue will also feature Creativa Junior Big Band, one of the youngest big bands in Spain; Dany Noel Band, an essential figure in contemporary Latin jazz, accompanied by a band of eight musicians to perform songs from his album Detalles and new compositions inspired by this festive season; and the Zambomba de la Familia de Parrilla de Jerez show, which pays tribute to Parrilla de Jerez, a major figure in the revival of popular Andalusian Christmas carols.
Plaza de los Carros will host performances by Sugar Soul Shakers, eight of the best musicians on Madrid’s soul and funk scene, who have prepared a repertoire of Christmas classics by James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Etta James, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and The Temptations. The Good Men Swingtet will be performing classics from the golden era of swing and Christmas melodies; and The Buttshakers, one of the most respected bands on the European black music scene, led by Ciara Thompson on the vocals, will present its latest album, Lessons In Love.
Finally, on 30 December, the Balcony of the Casa de la Villa will host the concert by Juan Zelada, one of the most representative and best-known figures on the national soul scene, who has prepared a special concert for this festive programme, accompanied by a brilliant wind section.
