Probably one of the oldest hotels in Spain and the oldest in Madrid. It was founded at the beginning of the 17th century to accommodate guests and visitors to the Court, taking advantage of its location next to the main stagecoach stop. In the 19th century, it expanded into the adjoining building overlooking Calle de Postas, resulting in its current address and considerable size.
The location of the room guests were assigned depended on how wealthy they were. So, rooms that overlooked the street were more expensive but more spacious, comfortable and well-ventilated than those facing inwards. After a number of refurbishments, it was taken over by the High Tech chain, which reopened it at the end of summer 2005, under the name Hotel Petit Palace Posada del Peine.
