The Andalusia Flamenco Ballet will be performing a show that reviews the most representative flamenco styles through a journey around Andalusia at the Centro Danza Matadero - CDM from 10 to 23 December.
The show, directed by the flamenco dancer and choreographer, Patricia Guerrero, lays a bridge between tradition and contemporary flamenco, combining soundscapes and aesthetics ranging from the 18th to the 21st century. Designed as a flamenco suite, the proposal brings together ancestral cries with new musical and choreographic sensitivities, exploring different structures without losing the essence of the genre.
The production aims to showcase the artist without any artifices, in a direct dialogue with the audience and highlights the new generations that are revamping the flamenco language whilst respecting its roots. Therefore, the evening represents the celebration of an art in constant transformation, capable of harmonising the past and the present without renouncing its identity.
The Andalusia Flamenco Ballet is the main institution devoted to flamenco in Andalusia and has served as an international ambassador of flamenco since it was founded in 1994. Throughout its history, it has taken its shows to many countries, including the United States, Argentina, Cuba, France, Italy, Hungary, Switzerland and Mexico, and it has been the training platform for leading artists, such as Israel Galván, Rafael Campallo, Belén Maya, Mercedes Ruiz, María José Franco or Rafaela Carrasco.
Patricia Guerrero has been the artistic director since 2023. She began flamenco dancing at the age of three thanks to her mother, who is also a flamenco dancer, María del Carmen Guerrero. Born in Granada in 1990, she joined Rubén Olmo’s Company in 2010 and went on to become the lead dancer in the Andalusia Flamenco Ballet. In 2021 she featured in La Bella Otero as the invited artist of the Spanish National Ballet and was awarded the the National Dance Award in the Performance category. She has also worked with the film-maker, Carlos Saura on the Flamenco Hoy show and on the film, Flamenco, Flamenco.
