As part of the 21st Suma Flamenca Festival, the flamenco dancer Rocío Molina will be performing a show in which the fall is turned into a celebration of the body and freedom on 30 October in the Sala Roja Concha Velasco at the Teatros del Canal.
The show is conceived as a journey and a descent through light and shadows, in which the dancer explores the boundaries of silence, music and noise to create a stage space in which the visible and the hidden are turned into movement.
The body is at the heart of the proposal. Molina establishes a different relationship with the floor and turns every step, every movement and every gesture into part of a physical exploration that links the dance to earth. Her movement emerges from a body deeply rooted in the experience of being a woman and turns the stage into a place for celebration, strength and freedom.
Molina draws on her essential codes to take them into other artistic areas, where different ways of understanding the body and performance go hand in hand. The result is flamenco that does neither renounces its roots, nor submits to them. It is open to risks and the incorporation of new forms of expression.
The choreographer and flamenco dancer, Rocío Molina has developed her own unique language based on the flamenco tradition and its dialogue with contemporary creation. Her work combines technical virtuosity with conceptual exploration and risk-taking, and establishes connections with disciplines such as film, literature, philosophy and painting.
Throughout her career, she has won many awards, including the National Dance Award in 2010, the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts in 2022 and the Silver Lion for Dance at the Venice Biennale in 2022. She has also won the Positano Dance Award, several Max Awards and UK National Dance Awards.
