From 24 June to 21 September, the El Águila complex will host an exhibition that offers a journey through the aesthetics and spirit of the 1960s and 1970s through the lens of the renowned photojournalist, Gianni Ferrari, who has photographed many of the key figures of the 20th century.
Curated by Esperanza García Claver, this exhibition reveals a dialogue between photography and fashion through the work of Gianni Ferrari (Milan, 1934), combining music, film, photography and fashion to transport the spectator to 1960s and 1970s Madrid, recapturing the pop spirit of an era that has been still is a constant source of inspiration.
Visitors will be able to admire more than 150 unpublished or unknown photographs by the photojournalist, who captured a spontaneous, elegant and vibrant Madrid through his lens, with images ranging from photojournalism to film portraiture and social chronicles.
Gianni Ferrari's camera lens reveals an aesthetic that is very close to greater naturalism and the “stolen snap” between the confidential, the unexpected and the new pose. These images show a vibrant and pop rhythm that have become fashion icons, such as the actress Audrey Hepburn shopping in Madrid; Lola Flores telling off her daughter Lolita at her home in Calle María de Molina, among many other characters, such as Claudia Cardinale, Concha Velasco, Anita Ekberg, the Dominguín family, Antonio el Bailarín, the Duchess of Alba or even the King and Queen of Spain.
Accompanying these photos, which make up a valuable photographic archive of Madrid's history, around twenty original ready-to-wear and haute couture garments and accessories are on display, including pieces by great designers such as Balenciaga, Givenchy, Pucci, Pedro Rodríguez or Marbel, particularly a dress worn by the Duchess of Alba, Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart; a Herrera y Ollero dress belonging to the Countess of Romanones, or two dresses belonging to the Spanish artists, Lola Flores and Betty Missiego. Alongside these garments, visitors can also see articles from magazines like Telva, Hola or Vogue, documents, sketches and audiovisual pieces.
