Until 12 October, the Telefónica Foundation Space will host an immersive and sensory exhibition by the Marshmallow Laser Feast digital arts group, which invites reflection on environmental responsibility. This exhibition brings together science, technology, art and creativity and urges people to protect the balance between human beings, nature and all the other species that coexist on the planet.
Oceans are the lifeblood of our planet, regulating the climate system and producing a huge amount of oxygen and natural resources. They are the world’s largest ecosystem, home to almost a million known species and they have enormous untapped scientific potential. Oceans are essential for human survival and the balance of the global ecosystem. Human existence and life on Earth depend on the health of the seas and oceans.
Curated by José Luis de Vicente (Director of the Dissney Hub in Barcelona - Dhub), the exhibition brings this reality closer through an immersive experience designed by Marshmallow Laser Feast in dialogue with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia’s Bioacoustic Applications Laboratory. Seeing Echoes in the Mind of the Whale, a large embracing audiovisual installation that invites visitors to reflect on the sustainability of marine ecosystems, is the centrepiece of the exhibition.
The installation is rounded off with twelve large screens and integrates images generated by artificial intelligence (AI) and real sound recordings of marine species captured in different parts of the planet. Data obtained from the research led by the UPC LAB, which studies noise pollution in the oceans and its impact on the species that inhabit them.
