The Voices at the Real concert series will be opening its new season at the Teatro Real on 4 October with a lyrical concert in which the tenor from San Sebastian, Xabier Anduaga, will be accompanied on stage by the Teatro Real Resident Orchestra, conducted by Julio García Vico. In this recital, he will perform opera arias by Giuseppe Verdi, Gaetano Donizetti, Charles Gounod and Jules Massenet, as well as zarzuelas.
Xabier Anduaga is a singer who is considered to be one of the greatest talents on the Spanish opera scene in recent times. He won the International Opera Award, which is considered to be the genre’s Oscar, for the best young singer in 2020, having already won the Zarzuela Operalia Award in 2019 and the Best Young Singer at the International Opera World Competition.
He began singing at the age of seven in the Orfeón Donostiarra choir and went on to study at Musikene - the Basque Country’s Higher Music Centre in the capital of Gipuzkoa. In 2016, he was chosen to join the Accademia Rossiniana de Pésaro (Italy), where he made his debut in international opera in the role of Cavalier Belfiore in Il viaggio a Reims by Gioachino Rossini. In 2016, he also appeared on stage at the Arriaga Theatre in Bilbao in La Cenerentola. He went on to perform other works by the Italian composer, such as The Barber of Seville or The Siege of Corinth and he participated in the Rossini Opera Festival.
