As part of the latest season of the Great Performers concert series, the Sala Sinfónica (Symphony Hall) at the National Music Auditorium will present the Russian pianist and orchestra conductor, Mikhail Pletnev, in concert on 4 November. In this recital, he will perform a selection of pieces by composers such as Bach, Schumann and Grieg
Mikhail Pletnev entered the Central Music School at the age of 13 and he joined the Moscow Conservatory in 1974, where he was taught by the pianists and maestros Yákov Flier and Lev Vlásenko. At the age of 21, he won the Gold Medal at the 4th International Tchaikovsky Competition, which earned him international recognition and brought him worldwide attention.
It was in 1979 when he made his debut in the United States and he was invited to perform at a superpowers conference in Washington D.C. in 1988. His recordings are mainly based on Russian pieces.
