British violinist Daniel Hope and German pianist Marie Sophie Hauzel will take to the stage in the Sala de Cámara of the National Music Auditorium on 6 October as part of Fundación Scherzo’s Horizontes series.
The violinist Daniel Hope has enjoyed a distinguished international career as a soloist for over 35 years. He is renowned for his musical versatility and his commitment to humanitarian causes, and has received numerous awards and honours, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the 2015 European Music Culture Prize.
He has been with the Deutsche Grammophon record label since 2007 and has an award-winning back catalogue. He is also a well-known radio and television presenter, and has worked with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Christoph Eschenbach, Vladimir Jurowski, Iván Fischer and Christian Thielemann. His recent albums for Deutsche Grammophon include DANCE!, which traces the history of Western dance from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, and Irish Roots.
Pianist Marie Sophie Hauzel has performed with leading orchestras, including the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, the Camerata Salzburg, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, the Shenzhen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hagen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen, the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic Orchestra, the Junge Sinfonie Berlin and the prestigious El Sistema Orchestra of Venezuela.
Hauzel has won, among other accolades, First Prizes at the International Balys Dvarionas Competition, the International Hans von Bülow Competition and the Carl Bechstein Competition. Chamber music is an important part of her artistic work. She has played with the likes of Rolando Villazón as well as Daniel Hope, with whom she is performing at this concert.
