The prestigious Russian pianist will be performing on 1 June in the Symphony Hall at the National Music Auditorium as part of the Scherzo Foundation’s Great Performers concert series. It will feature a programme focusing on pieces by Franz Schubert and Frédéric Chopin.
Born in St. Petersburg (Russia) in 1972, Arcadi Volodos is a pianist who embarked on his piano studies in 1987 at the Conservatory in his home town. He went on to study at the Moscow Conservatory with Galina Egiazarova and later at the Paris Conservatory (France) and the Reina Sofía Music School in Madrid.
He made his debut in New York (United States) in 1996 and has since performed with leading ensembles, such as the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra or the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Resident in Madrid for several years, he stands out for his piano recitals, thanks to a repertoire that typically includes pieces by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Beethoven, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Prokofiev or Ravel.
He has released ten albums, the latest being Schubert: Piano Sonata D.959 & Minuets D. 334, D. 335, D. 600 in 2019 and Volodos Plays Brahms in 2017, an album that won the Edison Award for classical music and the Diapason d'Or in November 2017 and he won the Gramophone Award for Best Instrumental Recording in 2018.
