From Thursday to Saturday, from 22 to 31 January, Matías Umpierrez will be putting on a performance piece at Conde Duque, reflecting on power, hate speech and human consciousness.
The title, loaded with resonances (through the multiple meanings of the word "play"), encapsulates the manifold nature of a piece that shifts seamlessly between the symbolic, the political and the poetic.
Umpierrez constructs a sensory and fragmented landscape using old tape recorders, slides, sculptures, puppets and recorded voices. These elements make up a visual and auditory orchestra that highlights the difficulty of seeing oneself in others, of coexisting in a world where the noise of power and vanity drowns out empathy. The result is a performance collage in which each fragment reveals the tensions, abuses and resentments that run through both public and private life.
More than a performance, it is a laboratory of images, sounds and reflections that invites the viewer to look at and listen to themselves from a different perspective. Between the hell and heaven of consciousness, Umpierrez proposes a provocative journey through the limits of representation and power, where theatre ceases to be entertainment and becomes an act of resistance and thought.
